Yes the ceramic inside is exactly the same. It insulates the outside (which has a high emissivity @ ≈0.93) and retains heat. It is cooler on the outside which reduces the chance of contact burns.

Does it set in a metal bucket make a big difference? Its the same stove just placed into a bucket -right?
