Stovers,
A very informative article about TLUD stove acquisition and use is now
available:
Allen Namagembe, Nancy Muller, Lisa Mueller Scott, Greg Zwisler,
Michael Johnson, Jennifer Arney,
Dana Charron & Emmanuel Mugisha (2015)
Factors Influencing the Acquisition and Correct and Consistent Use
of the Top-
Lit Updraft Cookstove in Uganda,
Journal of Health Communication: International Perspectives,
20:sup1, 76-83, DOI:

To link to this article: http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/10810730.2014.994245
The article is free and seems to be available at several links. The one
I used was:

The article (or link to it) will soon be on the Dr TLUD website.
One BIG issue in this study is that fuel supply is one of the most
crucial aspects of acceptance of TLUD stoves. This has been known for
a long time, even from the earliest work by Paal Wendelbo, but this
study gives a more complete analysis. But with appropriate fuels
available, TLUD acceptance can be strong.
