Dear Nikhil and All

Good question:

a. Any of these stoves given in dowry or wedding gift for five seasons at roughly a hundred per season?

In Tajikistan many of the durable stoves are received on the wedding day as a gift from the husband’s parents. I found more than one in a brief tour. They tend to be Russian made, old, cracked and still working. They were and are expensive. They last more than 30 years.

There are therefore two classes of stoves: cheapies with a life of about 5 years and ‘good ones’ often sourced at marriage. The idea that people are too poor to buy a good stove has to be highly qualified. It depends…

Regards
Crispin
