            1a.  Your reference below to “Jackson and Richard”  and “forestry college” is not clear.  Googling led me to this Worldbank 2013 stove document

            Where I see those two names.  Same?  (Also see yours and many other regulars on this list.)

            1b.  I am down on using charcoal for cooking.  This is one sentence from that document:  “Participant discussion emphasized the need for consumer awareness and behavior change for adoption of cleaner fuels for displacing charcoal.”    Is this attitude helping your sales?

            1c.  This report seems to have a complete outline of how to get better stoves into the field (not limited to Uganda) - at least as of 2012. It has nice diagrams for five aspects:

* Quality Assurance and Technical Support

* Business Development

* Consumer Engagement

* Access to Finance

* Policy Engagement

            where this list can help a little on the first and last areas.  How would you rate progress in Uganda on all five?

            2.  I visited your own company site ( http://awamu.ug/  ) and saw a nice looking char-making stove at $17.50.  Good price!  Congratulations.  Also showed 4 types of fuel.  Anything you can add on local experiences with your stove?  Some of the char being used as biochar?   Has this stove gone through any of the “tier” testing we heard about in today’s Winrock/GACC/DoE webinar (which I thought was very good)?

YES, those are the true links to the forestry college (Jackson and Richard). So, there are some directed efforts to train students in Biomass energy and improved cookstoves in Uganda. 

We are working closely with the two individuals since they are personally known to me but are also very knowledgeable in these areas.

I dont know if i mentioned, but they are also setting up an updated testing lab to start operations in the near future.

The missing years (2004-Jan 2006) may have been when we experienced a software change by our host at that time. They were renewable energy organizations that eventually used volunteers to manage the sites. The volunteers made bad decisions about software and didn’t stay to fix them. After struggling with the software and the archives we created the bioenergylists.org <http://bioenergylists.org/>  domain in March 2006 where we have sponsored and hosted the lists since then. I know that we have rebuilt the archives for the lost period but I’ll have to get my IT support to access them.

Fortunately, the combustion scientists are beginning to take an interest, because  issues in Global ecology are becoming acute.  More graduate students are appearing.

What I think we need more of is help for the practical cookstove developers.  There needs to be scientific capacity-building, access through the academic paywalls, and access to basic measurement equipment.  There needs to be strong system of mentoring around the World so that these two communities — practicioners and scientists — become better connected and work together.
