Time is running out to
register
for the EPA and Winrock International webinar Clean Burning Biomass Cookstoves: Advancing R&D on Super Clean Stoves, taking place next Wednesday, May 18th at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time
 (EDT).

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to hear answers to that question through an in-depth discussion and Q&A session with Aprovecho Research Center about
its newest publication “Clean Burning Biomass Cookstoves”, that describes work supported by a grant from the US Department of Energy (DOE). The book is available free for download
HERE.
The book covers a description of Aprovecho’s design process and testing results (including user-informed design and field testing) of each of the five biomass stoves that were developed, CAD drawings of the stoves, and guidance on how to use key design principles
for heat transfer and combustion efficiency to get the cleanest burning stoves possible.

During
this webinar,
presenters Dean Still and Sam Bentson will discuss the results of their research including a discussion on their iterative design process, tips for maximizing heat transfer and combustion efficiency, a description and drawings of each of the 5 stoves developed,
and a discussion of their work validating these stoves with users in the field. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.

Register today

Webinar participation is free. For the web portion, a high-speed internet connection is required.

Mr. Dean Still

Dean Still, President, ASAT and Executive Director, Aprovecho Research Center. Mr. Still brings over 27 years of experience
in the biomass cookstove industry. He has extensive expertise in all aspects of the industry value chain from initial product design through product commercialization and distribution. Mr. Still oversees lab and consultancy staff and travels frequently to
stove projects world-wide. He has participated in over 100 improved cookstove projects, and has published two books with the EPA. His latest book, “Clean Burning Biomass Cookstoves” summarizes the three year SBIR and DOE investigation and iterative development
of a new generation of super-clean burning cookstoves.

Mr. Sam Bentson
Sam Benston is an aerospace engineer, and has been the Lab Manager at Aprovecho Research Center for 4 years. Mr. Bentson designs
and carries out experiments in the lab to test and optimize cook stoves. He conducts trainings on stove characterization, stove design, and data analysis for users of the company’s in-house manufactured emissions equipment, the LEMS. The gravimetric PM2.5
component of the LEMS was designed from concept to manufacture by Mr. Bentson. His article in Energy for Sustainable Development, “The influence of initial fuel load on Fuel to Cook for batch loaded charcoal cookstoves,” formed the basis for the charcoal
stove found in the new book Clean Burning Biomass Cookstoves.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and Winrock International have been engaged in the household energy field for many years, including
through coordination of the Partnership for Clean Indoor Air (PCIA) and its 590 Partners working in 117 countries from 2002-2012. Since the integration of PCIA and the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves in 2012, Winrock and the U.S. EPA have continued working
to increase the exchange of technical information among public and private organizations working in the global household energy and health sectors through local capacity building, targeted technical assistance and field studies and global knowledge sharing.
The goal of these activities is to promote effective approaches that lead to increased use of clean, reliable, affordable, efficient, and safe home cooking and heating practices.
