Crispin:

Reference 2 here is to "Of Chimney Fireplaces", Essays Fifth Edition (1800)
by Count Rumford (Benjamin Thompson).

This is the thermodynamicist Count Thompson who debunked the caloric theory
of heat, i.e. there was caloric flowing in and out of things. An American,
he took the British side during the American war of independence, then fled
to Britain, then became an adviser to the king of Bavaria (who made him a
Count).

Not only did he invent Thompson Fireplaces, he designed model stoves, and
inspired Ellen Swallow Richards of MIT a hundred years later to set up a
model stove at the 1900 Chicago World Fair (or Expo, I forget; wasn't in my
lifetime.)

This is the history you are building on. For the poor people and their
varieties of biomass. May you succeed in debunking the theory that
pollutants sit in solid fuels, only to flow out like caloric and go into
people's lungs.

Then there is the next challenge -- to debunk the theory that all PM2.5 are
equitoxic and that fine particulates from cooking flow from emissions into
people's lungs and cause CVD or clean fuels cure premature mortality from
CVD instantaneously.

Ajay Pillarisetti cc'd here may correct me if he has already debunked that
theory.
