[Stoves] Fuel qualities as the limiting factor, and getting rid of WBT (Was: Frank on helium surrogate)

Dear Crispin,

My point is that if you want to clean the air you -need to do something- that will actually result in cleaner air. 

In the lab we don’t care what stove you bring to us. Bring in the stove they are using and like. Then bring in the fuel they use and see if there is a way to prepare the fuel to burn cleaner. Before even beginning to do that the lab will need to prepare the fuel so every set we do starts of the same constant quality fuel. And if we can get the chemical and physical properties of the fuel at a later time we may have that fuel on stock. If they have an assortment of biomass we may suggest a better mix. 

You can’t mix Science with people habits. You put a circle around Science and then pass through the circle a stove to be tested and out of the circle you get the results. We don’t want help from outsiders coming in telling us how to set up and run our experiments. We don’t care if you sell stoves or not. We will take a stove you want tested designed to cook a specific meal and the fuel type available and work to optimize the results. Then you will need to prepare the fuel as we suggest and operate as we suggest to simulate the results in the field. Don’t ask us to do anything else. 

Pellets are prepared and I’m thinking would be used more if supplied. Dried lumber fuel is prepared and i think used if suppled. Pre-dried wild fuel is prepared and would be used over damp raw fuel. A pile of already cut sticks used over long needing to be cut sticks. Who does this? Perhaps a job opportunity. But I leave this to others.
