[Stoves] Noise pollution and premature mortality

Anil:

Stove noise is not an issue in "noise pollution". I understood Crispin to
suggest that since WHO has blessed "noise DALYs" like "PM2.5 DALYs", a
cleaner and quieter stove could win aDALY credits.

I hadn't thought of that, but of course experts can deliver any estimates
at a price. I earned a living that way. Following IHME precedent, I don't
need any new data, just modification of assumptions.

Your piece is delightful. I just posted it on my Facebook groups. All data
will be stale by the time they are collected and analyzed. What is needed
is on-the-spot fines after two warnings. In Ahmedabad, party music has to
be shut down at 11pm or midnight.

Now, if only Kirk Smith could be convinced that the burden of
cardiovascular disease in India is attributable more to urban noise
pollution and less to rural household biomass use in cooking... But that'd
be another ten years of research.
