The September issue of National Geographic has an article titled "When
Cooking Kills". The article has 5 pages of photos but only one page of
text (which is typical). However, the text, by Michelle Nijhuis, does
highlight some of the basic facts about traditional cooking practices and
their impacts on health, safety and the environment. The story and photos
are from Guatemala, and it quotes a local midwife who observed that
"critical mothers-in-law often are the highest barriers to change."
