Yes they make good raw material for making working prototypes but would be
too expensive to translate into  designs for mass production.

Which are expansion bottles used in wet central heating systems.

For my experiments I used discarded fire extinguishers. These are available
in many sizes and in UK commercial use have to be taken out of service
after five years so are easily obtained at no cost. The LPG bottles Crispin
showed are of course reusable and in UK remain the property of the gas
seller.
