Dear,
on page 19 of this report this should be corrected referring to the
"adam-retort" kiln:
1) "Need of water to cool down the charcoal which leads to lower charcoal
quality or
needs additional drying"
There is no need of water for cooling, cooling is preferable done during
night, the wood chamber is covered by a metal sheet and some removable
extra lid for insulation. Once the insulation lid is removed, cooling
happens also without water.
2) "Pyrolysis gas are not burned completely (only about 50% are)"
No, most of the pyrolysis gas is burnt!
3) "Pyrolysis gas are burned without heat recovery"
The heat from the burnt wood gas is passing under the wood chamber and its
metal plate and is pushing carbonization, that heat recovery isn't it. The
heat is used for another process, to accelerate the carbonization
process...
