Dear Andrew

The accuracy and precision of a scale are separately reported. Looking into how a scale reports a value can be inspiring. Some collect a number of readings and average them. Some take a single value only after it is stable within some range without changing for a certain time, often two or three seconds.

When a stove is burning fuel, the reading is never constant even for two seconds. It is best to get as many readings as rapidly as possible then average them. The scale is often doing that already.

If the display shows mass by one gram and the 'guarantee' of the value shown is ±2 g, you have the rating of your scale.

The CSI spreadsheet needs the change in the value. You can use any scale you like.

Regards
Crispin

Thanks Norbert and Crispin for his later additions.

I think they are a bit too big and expensive for my needs and I don't
quite see why I cannot use my 7kg scale for the CSI test

Anyway what is the meaning in the Adam scale literature of a
"readability" of 1 gram and a "repeatability" of 2 grams?

Andrew
