Dear Space Heating Friends

The full drawing set for the Mongolian low pressure boiler (hydronic heater) are available here<http://www.newdawnengineering.com/website/library/Stoves/Mongolia/MN5.3%20v3.1%20LPB/>.

The novelty of this design is the fact that it can be assembled fully before a pressure test must be conducted. Suggested test pressure is 1 bar (15 psi). There is a "convection plate" behind the fire which should be added after the pressure test is complete.

As usual, there should be no welding at all inside the box that holds the ceramics. This version is made for 40mm thick plastic refractory plates (all moulds and parts are shown) using either an aluminum dihydrogen phosphate or an aluminum orthophosphate material. Sawn refractory bricks are a suitable replacement for which separate drawings are available - the yare the same as the KG4 and TJ4 stoves but thinner.

The PM produced from lignite fuels is in the region of 6 mg/MJNET and at low power it can burn unattended for up to 14 hours (according to feedback from users). Under ideal conditions the PM2.5 is below 0.5 mg/MJNET which means the right coal and the right size range 16-25mm.

The efficiency varies with power from 65% at 18 kW in the water to about 85% at 5 kW. The maximum firepower varies with the fuel type. We have measured the range of 13-28 kW depending on energy, volatiles and ash content.

Testing the same stove architecture at the North West University in Potchefstroom in April using the size range 15-30 was successful and there may be more performance available by using fuel with a different packing ability. In the South Africa case, the fuel was Witbank B sub-bituminous coal and the smokelessness was unexpectedly stable even during instances of mild misuse. Their version, the SA8, cooks very well as it is primarily a cooking stove.

Regards
Crispin
