Dear Friends of Tom Reed,

"Honor the past; enjoy the present fully; and keep your eye out for future opportunities".

It is with sadness that I am writing to let you know that my Dad, Tom Reed (many of you knew him as Dr. Tom Reed) died peacefully last Wednesday, October 10th, 2018 in Worcester, Massachusetts after a short illness. He was 92 years old.

The above quote was one of his favorites and I think he lived by each one of them - the past, the present and the future. Looking through old photograph albums for pictures of him brought back many fond memories of living in Concord (Everett Street and then The Valley Road in Conantum) and then the moving out west to Golden, Colorado where he worked for the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI), The School of Mines and more recently, various startup businesses. My Dad also loved the present moment and often referred to it as a “present”. But when I think of my Dad, I think of him as someone who looked to the future, envisioning a world that was a better, cleaner and healthier place for all humanity. Much of his career was spent shaping that vision of the future in developing alternative fuels, renewable biomass and clean-burning wood stoves for developing countries.

There is so much to say about his life. I am attaching two versions of his obituaries that my brother Phil wrote. If you would like to submit a short paragraph or two of a memory or a moment with Tom, please email them to me. I will do what I can to include them in the service honoring our Dad.

Katherine, Phil, Peter and I invite you to attend a memorial service for our father on November 4th, 2018, at 1:00 PM. The service will be held at the Congregational Church, 30 Park St, Barre, MA 01005.
A private burial will be held following the service.

Thank you and all the best,

— Kevin Reed
