Thank you Hugh. Tom was a friend of the Miles family for more than 40 years. We first met at the American Chemical Society and worked together on fuel densification, gasification, and biochar. Many good memories. Our condolences to the family.

Looking through old photograph albums for pictures of him brought back many fond memories of living in Concord (Everett Street and then The Valley Road in Conantum) and then the moving out west to Golden, Colorado where he worked for the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI), The School of Mines and more recently, various startup businesses. My Dad also loved the present moment and often referred to it as a “present”. But when I think of my Dad, I think of him as someone who looked to the future, envisioning a world that was a better, cleaner and healthier place for all humanity. Much of his career was spent shaping that vision of the future in developing alternative fuels, renewable biomass and clean-burning wood stoves for developing countries.
