Dear colleagues,

The World Bank’s Clean Cooking Fund is pleased to announce the upcoming report, Opening Opportunities, Closing Gaps: Advancing Gender-Equal Benefits in Clean Cooking Operations. A product of the Clean Cooking Fund’s global platform for knowledge, innovation, and policy coordination—this report presents the key arguments, opportunities, and practical steps for integrating gender considerations into clean cooking programs. The idea is to help practitioners and policy makers gain an appreciation of the gender gaps in clean cooking operations and equip them with knowledge, including best-practice case examples, on how to bridge them.

The geographic focus of the report spans Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

To enhance the report’s key messages, the Clean Cooking Fund is seeking photos representative of these regions that illustrate the following themes:

  *   Women’s role as primary stove users and managers, including the adverse impacts from the use of polluting, traditional stoves and fuels on families and the benefits of their switching to clean cooking solutions (e.g., ease of cooking, cleaner kitchens, less drudgery, better health, and freed-up time for income generation and study).
  *   Women’s engagement across the clean-cooking value chain (e.g., as stove co-designers with engineers, employees of stove manufacturing companies, entrepreneurs, stove and fuel suppliers and distributors, and sales agents).
  *   Women’s access to financing as stove suppliers and consumers.
  *   Market support, including women’s participation in focus group discussions, stove demonstrations, other behavior-change activities, training, and business development.


Each submitted photo should be of high quality (at least 300 dpi) and accompanied by a brief descriptive caption, along with the photo credit and permission from the copyright owner. Preferred file formats are JPG, TIF, and EPS. Please send your submissions to jwu10 at worldbank.org<mailto:jwu10 at worldbank.org>.
