[Stoves] new article

The WHO has "targets" for daily and annual concentrations. As Nikhil has pointed out before, these numbers are arbitrary. They are basically designed to ban coal and wood n the theory that they are "dirt fuels". For silly reasons kerosene is included in that group. All three fuels can be burned very cleanly.

As for the doors and leaks (which they call "flooding"), the primary air should be shut off before the door is opened. The reason the smoke comes out of the door is not lack of draft per se but because there is a hot vertical path for air from the primary entrance, through the bed to the open door. That is a preferential path for gases. If the path is blocked below, air is pulled into the door and nothing rises from below. It is common sense if you see a gas path from the side.

Stay well

Crispin

There was a correlation with the opening of the door to feed fuel. That was a finding worth doing something about.

Yes, which is why I suggested opening the door slowly and re stoking infrequently, from my observations what comes out is often fly ash and yes disturbing something in my ash-dusty room does register as a peak on the meter.

This is very easily demonstrated by looking at the cobwebs ;-). I have considered having a simple fan powered dust filter for the room.

I wouldn't say my Morso 11 was poorly designed (other than the air control mechanism being susceptible to jam with ash) but even with a chimney that draws well the air path is such that smoke does get out when the door is opened unless there is a good flame,

If you are measuring and discussing peaks (which they do because the averages are not very interesting) it is worth noting that walking across a carpet can create a peak of 200 µg/m3.

I think WHO consider anything above 25 µg/m3 high.

You must visit sometime :-)

Good to chat Crispin.
