[Stoves] UCB PM monitors

As far as I remember the UCB PM monitors were once (early 2000s…) made by University of Califorinai Berkeley (thus UCB) from modified smoke detectors. 
I think that is what Vincent refers to as I saw them using these things when I visited them at Kisumu in 2004. 
Ihre are better suited people to explain about them.

I guess there are better gadgets around these days

I have used a cheap USB based laser particulate monitor which seems to
be basically the laser scanner from a cd player, some firmware and a
serial to usb converter. It came with no software but I was able to
modify a python script to have it output to file.

I have no idea of its absolute accuracy but it does seem to pick up
"events", such as when I open the door of my wood stove to put a log
in.
