<p class=MsoNormal>Dear Jan, Frank and all,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>I agree, we should take the initiative to set up a group,
gather ideas, organize them and submit them to the right organisation, I have
the feeling the Global Alliance is the most-suited. It ranks among the firsts when
searching about stoves on Google, it has visibility. Maybe there are others?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>This organization could host a kind of web-based software,
or methods-manual which would be the skeleton of a participative approach, a
kind of wikipedia, but with more clarity and a better display. People should be
able to find what they want with a few clicks. The initiative needs to be
well-structured, long-lasting and involving everyone, but I think it can start
from a group of individuals, especially if they represent different
organisations working in the field.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>If you want to set up such a group, count me in. Maybe there
are people in the list with experience in knowledge and information management,
and who had been doing such an exercise already?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Cheers,<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoPlainText>Dear Xavier<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Then maybe a group should be put together to see that
this gets done. I<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>agree that that a map would be a good way to display
it--different color for<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>stove type and pattern for fuel type. PCIA
has a good list of projects,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>but they only get only the list if they are partners of
PCIA. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Aren't there people on this list serve who know folks at
the Alliance?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Let's find out who they are and see if another attempt at
your idea couldn't<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>be made. Maybe it just got lost in start-up frenzy.
I notice the Alliance's<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>website hasn't changed much since January--this seems
like it would be<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>project made for them. I'd be curious to know what
they think of it.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>By the way--thanks for forwarding me the articles.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoPlainText>Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Dear Jan, Xavier and Stovers,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>I agree the Charcoal Project is on the right track with
making a map of the<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>type of biomass around the world. Then focus on the
biomass that's<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>sustainable and yearly amount that can be produced. All
this helps market<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>the right stove for an area as marketing the wrong stove
may lead to biomass<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>depletion. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Then, as you mention, we need to match the stove with the
fuel. To do this<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>the fuel needs to be categorized based on physical and
chemical<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>constituents, not only by name. Then each stove tested
for their working<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>range. And to do this we need to list the constituents
for testing and<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>methods to use - we need an agreed upon methods manual. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>The methods manual should be produced by an organized
group or University<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>and structured and financed such that permits input from
all and ongoing<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>continued review. And all the major players need to get
on board adapting<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>the program. All this takes money and commitment to the
project. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
