and All

Let's explore the plus and minus of preheating secondary
air.

Certainly, preheating increases efficiency by adding
Joules/gram-degree (heat capacity), about 0.7 J/g-C, back into the combustion
process. If you could preheat the air to 300C, that would be 210
J/g.

Consider that the heat of combustion of 10% moisture wood is about
20,000 J/g. So, this is about 1% of the energy being released.
That's the plus.

DD I see the biggest advantage of heated primary air to be the low burn
setting on some stoves. By pre- heating the primary air, the stove thinks it is
in full burn mode and should burn hotter and cleaner. Low burn is the biggest
problem for producing emissions because of the low temperatures associated with
low settings. On the high burn mode pre-heated air helps the most with high
moisture biomass. It keeps the steam from quenching the flames. All those
energized ions.

DD My landscaping business is being forced to move
from the farm I have been leasing for 30 years. This is due to sale of the
farm to housing developers. I am in intense negotiation this week for a lease -
purchase on a new 5 acre property. This can go very well, or very bad for me if
negotiations fall through. Other sites available but more difficult to move
and settle into. Prayers appreciated.

Hopefully in a few weeks I'll have a great
location to rebuild the greenhouse, build a nursery, play with stoves and
other sustainable concepts. There will be considerable development needed
on this wooded land. It is one mile off the highway, so easy to find for
stovers passing through Dayton, Ohio area to enjoy a rest stop.

This long term stressful situation is a lot of the
reason I have not been as active on the list lately. Maybe if we all think
positive it will make things work out hu?
