It is a side draft combustor with a hopper that drops fuel into a combustion chamber about half the size of a bread box. There is significant air control. This unit ran clean down to 50% excess air and even less. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-CA'><img width=567 height=418 id="Picture_x0020_1" src="cid:image002.jpg@01CDC28D.2B69E570"></span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The draft on the system was about 0.02” of water provided by an extraction fan on the sort-of-chimney that emerged from the water tank that was being heated.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='mso-fareast-language:EN-CA'><img width=473 height=417 id="Picture_x0020_2" src="cid:image006.jpg@01CDC28D.2B69E570"></span> <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>There is a shiny galvanised 3/8” bolt emerging from the burner just below the red handle on the brass valve. That bolt rotates a secondary air supply collar with multiple holes in it. It has quite a good degree of control and made a clear difference to the quality of the burn when it was adjusted. The best burn was obtained with the lowest excess air ratio (under 50% but not total stable because of the erratic fuel size).<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The galvanised tread plate is part of an elaborate automatic fuel feeder that shoves the fuel to the side using an auger.
