The work by the Germans in 1938-1942 is truly amazing. A measurement precision of 0.006% was achieved in the 1920’s which is quite a bit better (2 orders of magnitude) than the Hawaiian precision in the period 1957-1965. The CO<sub>2</sub> level peaked in 1942-45 at over 400 ppm then dropped to 350 over 20 years.
