This is important. There have been complaints that stoves are being tested in a way that does not reflect use (decontextualized testing). It is evident that people can build stoves that will pass the PM2.5 emission test but have a very different ‘real’ emissions rate because the test is so different from what people do when they get it.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Sound familiar?<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The main difference is the fuel burned. Round chopped wood is not the same as machined 4x4 inch or 2x4 inch cut timber, and burns differently which affects emissions. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The move is towards testing using conditions that reflect normal use (contextual testing) and the emissions allowed are higher than before. This is not happening immediately, but will come eventually. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Strangely coal stoves and multi-fuel stoves are not covered by the new rules, but must not advertise that they can burn wood or pellets.
