The diameter may be up to half a metre. It is used for parties and weddings. A very large pot or wok is placed on top. The fire is lit underneath. The v-slots allow hot gases to flow past the pot surface increasing the heat transfer efficiency. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>The holes and vee were created using a high current and a welding rod, which was used as a ‘gouging rod’. A gouging rod is a special type of arc welding rod that doesn’t lay down any metal. If just creates as much heat as possible using the arc, and lasts as long as possible. It tends to blast gases forward like a cutting torch. Few people use them, but the principle can be used to cut metal in a jagged way, using a standard rod at higher than normal power.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>This type of cutting was observed many times on artisanal products.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Regarding the use of a vee notch instead of a small pot rest, note the similarity of the pipe stove to this traditional clay stove from Gorontalo, Indonesia.
