Anyway, when it comes to cooking in the countryside, here's what I've seen in the western provinces:
Restaurants use LPG tanks if available, otherwise firewood and charcoal are used. Round charcoal briquettes (see pix) are used in small ceramic stoves to keep soups warm.
Rural households use firewood in simple iron stoves with chimneys and charcoal in ceramic stoves. I didn't see agri waste like dried corn cobs or rice husks being used for cooking. A lot of agri waste is simply burned in the field, heavily polluting the air at the end of each crop season.
I think hybrid TLUDs like your T-Char design would be perfect for Chinese-style cooking, with an initial high heat frying stage and a subsequent slow simmer on coals. There's also an opportunity for large biochar kilns like the Kontiki to handle farm waste.
