<p>Paul, I totally agree with your observations about "insufficient
ICS". Why are people not lining up to buy all these "improved"
stoves? Maybe potential users do not want merely incremental
benefits but want real progress? <br>
</p>
<p>There is a difference between cooking and heating stoves. We see
in Kyrgyzstan that the efficient and clean heating stoves indeed
provide so many benefits that people are prepared to pay the price
of the stove (particularly if the stove also allows for cooking):
in return, they can heat more space of their home, use less fuel,
keep the stove on during 10 or more hours without refueling (the
coal stove, not the dung or wood stove), can easily control the
room temperature, and enjoy a drastic reduction in PM2.5 and CO. <br>
</p>
<p>Maybe we should go back to the drawing board and develop biomass
cooking stoves that yield benefits that people are asking for, and
not what we think they want!</p>
