Thanks for the recommendation. Good info is on Wikipedia:
Has a hollow stem, which is LESS biomass, but is easier to cut and
dry.
Considered an invasive species in New Zealand and some other
places.
Wherever it is abundant, it could be a great fuel for TLUD stoves as
vertical segments bundled together, or chopped into pieces.
Please tell us about your experiences with it.

just my 2 cents:
Has anyone ever tried to grow hedgerows of arundo donax for erosion contrrol and fuel?
It is the ideal crop as for fast biomass buildup, easy harvest and processing.
The root system can clear almost all kind of domestic sewers.
The leaves make good fodder and the canes can be used in many other ways than just burning them.
Our houses have them as structural elements in the ceilings, greenhouse structures, tomato poles and so on.
I made perfect pellets out of them...
The mostly straight growing canes lend themselves to burn easily in continuosly fed fires like Rockets.
Who wants to try?

Roland,
Very good comments contrasting wood-fuel and charcoal-fuel, so I am
sending them onward to the Stoves Listserv also.
Note: Your website www.agrokarbo.info seems quite useful for the
biochar readers. Unfortunately I do not read German.

That's true. Charcoal is not the energy of the poorest of the poor.
All over the world charcoal is used in the cities by the richer part
of the society.
Charcoal is a billion $ business and only 20% of the end price goes to
the producer, who usually apply very primitive methods. 80 % is
transport, bribes, intermediates etc. And there is nothing (tax) for
the concerning state budget.
