my knowledge, this kind of reactor simulates the downdraft reactor but in a
reverse way. i.e., in a downdraft reactor the biomass is processed following
the stages (from top to the grate) of drying, pyrolysis, oxidation, and
reduction (gasification). In this reactor all charcoal is not consumed, because the
ashes could be molten deriving problems. While, in the batch-type reactor,
which is used in the TLUD cookstoves, where the air is fed through the grate
and the biomass is ignited on top, the thermochemical stages of biomass are
arranged as presented in our paper. If you want, I can send you my PhD thesis
where I modelled this reactor-type and the contrasted results agree with my
hypothesis.</span></p>
