I wondered if it was a typo for USB.<br>
<br>
I have used a cheap USB based laser particulate monitor which seems to<br>
be basically the laser scanner from a cd player, some firmware and a<br>
serial to usb converter. It came with no software but I was able to<br>
modify a python script to have it output to file.<br>
<br>
I have no idea of its absolute accuracy but it does seem to pick up<br>
"events", such as when I open the door of my wood stove to put a log<br>
in.<br>

As far as I remember the UCB PM monitors were once (early 2000s?) made by University of Califorinai Berkeley (thus UCB) from modified smoke detectors. <br>
I think that is what Vincent refers to as I saw them using these things when I visited them at Kisumu in 2004. <br>
Ihre are better suited people to explain about them.<br>
