[Gasification] rope seals for really sealing?

Hallo Jim,

about which temp range are we talking?

if it has to be fibre, i know that sometimes the old folks used to impregnate 
it with graphite powder.
If the temp.is low enough for high temp grease, you could try some 
copper/graphit mounting paste on the fibre rope.
