[Gasification] Ceramic Filter Candles

Benjamen,

We have used ceramic fiber filters from Glosfume (http://www.glosfume.com/
). We have found that when you install them correctly, adequately cool the
gas (to below 300C), and distribute the gas evenly to the filters, they work
extremely well. They behave very much like well designed bag filters on
atmospheric dusts.

High temperature ceramic filters have been used by organizations making
syngas for chemical conversions. We tested the early ones in the 1990s. I am
sure they have improved. I don't know the details but I understand that
ceramic filters have been used as sites for chemical reactions between the
syngas and injected substances.

Kind regards,

Tom Miles

Subject: [Gasification] Ceramic Filter Candles

Hello Doug, Greg, Tom, and all of the other list members.

I do not post to this list much, but I enjoy reading it, it is very helpful
too me, thank you.

I have been thinking about filtration of gas, and ways too do this. Given
a tar free gas, and the ability to cool and dehumidify it to a reasonable
degree; I am looking at ceramic filter candles, and wondering with the
large range of these that are available for water filtration if any of these
are suitable or more suitable for wood gas?

As my work is on a small scale and on a budget, I am of course looking for
solutions that exist in industry that are easy to adopt rather than coming
up with something new.

I appreciate any thoughts on this, and hope this is of interest.

Benjamen H
