[Gasification] Emissions fines

With the additional emission equipment cost added to the system,
additional maintenance and other factors, and the systems being dual
stage combustors, not true gasifiers, using a gasifier/engine with the
right design, could easily compete with the life cycle costs (if one
includes fines, an even stronger argument) of these dual stage
combustors. Additional factors include higher thermal conversion, the
option of a combined cycle operation increases the advantage further. I
do not consider some of the current systems as "the right designs"
because of their excess cost.

Further, permitting an engine on produced gas should be significantly
easier than a dual stage combustor as one can usually permit a diesel
engine in any jurisdiction and a producer gas engine has substantially
less emissions than a diesel engine, or a natural gas engine. Other
factors arise such as BACT compliance, but those are not major
obstacles.

Dear List,

Curious anyone would want to add a gasification step if a properly
designed combustor would work. Only use a gasifier as a last recourse
unless it's a hobby event.
