[Gasification] OT, now, Boat pulls easier than Cart?

Dear Pete,
just as the settlers in the USA used sails on their covered wagons,
there used to be tow paths along rivers in U.K. where horses, walking
on the tow path would pull a loaded barge which floated on the river.
A horse would have drawn much less weight, if it had been pulling a
cart. Had wheels been more efficient for land transport, nature would
have long ago evolved animals with wheels. But that did not happen,
because a smooth road is a prerequisite of wheeled transport on land.
