[Gasification] Graphite Heat Exchangers for Producer Gas?

In the early days of graphite  fiber/graphite matrix brake disks on  
race cars, the ceramic coating would sometimes crack, allowing oxygen  
onto the hot graphite.  The result became known in the pits as  
"Designer Coal."
