Dear Paul and all:

Thank you SO MUCH for keeping our early publications available on the web (below).   I am right now at the ETHOS stove week Extension at Aprovecho, in Oregon, freezing my tail in the conference room.  

I lived in Houston for a year when I was twenty, and had never been so cold in life up until that time.  In Chicago they have deep Winters, and so turn on the furnaces at the first cold day, set the thermostat to 70degrees and forget Winter.  In Houston they like to pretend there is no Winter, so they freeze on their few Winter days.

We are thinking of making a "REBAR TLUD FIREPLACE CADY" that would hold 10 - 20 logs, and (lit ON TOP) burn 24 hours, giving approximately even heat, the whole period.
