Dear All,

We are in to gas Engine generator set business from India.

We supply used and unused Gas gen-set for natural and renewable gas applications like biomass / syngas / wood gas / producer gas based on gasifier based gasification process. We have Waukesha and Jenbacher Engines in surplus stock from 700kw to 2000kw. Please let us know if there any requirement in any country.

Best Regards,

HI Bjorn,

What do you think of the small Spanner 10kw chp machine?

Hi @ all,

the older Spanner plants (HKA 45 and HKA 49) used low efficient GM-origin engines. These plants consume 0.9 kg/kWh_el.
The HKA70 uses engine with higher compression ratio and higher compressing turbochargers. These plants consume 0.8 kg/kWh_el.
Please note that the provided wood consumption figures are based on wet basis (13% water content). Hence wood consumption based on dry matter (what I always recommend to use for comparison) is somewhat lower (0.8, respective 0.7 kg/kWh_el).

The efficiency increase of HKA 70 is due to the better engine. That´s all.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / with best regards

Hello Greg,

The chip consumption of the Spanner units are around 1kg / kWh depending on quality of wood.

I have some prices for the Spanner units in Euro but need a bit of time to sort it out.

Regards,

Werner

Greg,

You are stating about 1 pound of biomass per 1 kWe. The data sheet for Spanner is 0.9 kg per hour for 1 kWe (essentially your are half of their biomass consumption).

Do you have an estimate of price (maybe use Canandian costs) for have one unit made (not a DIY unit). Maybe triple that cost to have the price for a model to be sold by a business.

Greetings Paul, and List members !

As far as input goes, from 10lbs. An hour and up. Output from, 10 to 30 kwE

The original design had a direct coupled Chevy 350, however I have since changed to a belt driven system, this way "what's available" can be used as a prime mover.

As far as operation, and use, a 2 day training for someone that has very basic skills in mechanics for servicing, and a 1 day for people that will be gathering and/or preperation of the biomass.

As far as replication, off the North American continent a person with oxygen/acetylene torches could build it other than the actual generator.

Hi Greg,

Long time since we last communicated directly! You are one of those who "do."

Please tell us size (input, output, etc.) and the extent that it could be replicated for large numbers of users. How much "skill level" is needed by the users? (YOU are not an average user. Could others operate it if the system was available?)

Currently Busy with another project, HOWEVER, This post sparks my interest !

I do small scale biomass fired generation.

Tom and all,

Please guide us (as a start) to understanding the needs and realities of off-grid non-solar power where biomass is plentiful. Are there some key links?

Low-population, forested high latitude areas (less sunlight) without easy boat or train access would seem to be a major geographic region of need. Diesel generators seem to dominate the power generation. What sources confirm these statements, how big is the problem (expressed as numbers of gensets at what sizes), and what is being done about it, and by whom? (Canadians, please reply with your info.)

This should be a significant topic for this Listserv.

Are you in a marine air environment? There are many villages that need electricity in low coastal areas..
