[Greenbuilding] Water Softening

Hi All:

Another question:  I am looking for a water softener that preferably 
isn't salt based and doesn't use electricity.  I put in radiant heat and 
have been advised that the water I have will need conditioning to avoid 
problems with the system.

I've had (and liked) a Kinetco potassium system, but am told it's no 
longer available.  Has anyone used one of the non salt systems and if 
so, what are your thoughts?
