I'd point out that this (popular uptake of the idea) varies greatly country
to country.
We could start with the language commonly found in our media and survey
question wordings they reference here in the US where the phrase tends to
be 'do you *believe *in global warming?' as if this phenomenon were on the
same list as Santa Claus and the tooth fairy.
