[Greenbuilding] glass panels as porch roof?

Actually... this is my second glass roof: the first one was torn-off by ice 10 years ago. On that version, the battens holding the glass down were cedar 5/4 x 3, and I thought that their relatively rough surface had allowed the ice to get a grip. The main roof is 7.5/12 (aka 10/16, the golden mean) steel, allowing the ice to slide, that time taking my panels with it. The real problem was thinking that a few electroplated nails would hold in a cedar facia. This one is bolted.
