[Greenbuilding] Energy calculations

Totally agree but in BC the standard is just referenced as work having to
comply to that standard. No requirement for certification yet in the code
and we don't yet have a BCIN requirement.

John, that may not be true, not many contractors actually qualify. If the
HVAC contractor is not trained and certified to provide an F280-12 heat loss
/ heat gain calculation and do not have an HRAI designation or equivalent,
ideally also a BCIN number, then they shouldn't be sizing equipment anymore.
The old ways are no longer acceptable but many HVAC contractors are still
using inaccurate rules of thumb or obsolete calculation methods. This is
actually a significant problem as homes are getting more efficient, there's
way too many comfort complaints these days when proper design and some
up-to-date building science knowledge is all it takes to make it right.

The HVAC contractor who did the actual work would qualify to revise the
calculations to see if they meet the 58k BTU available (shouldn?t be
difficult to meet that with even a rough model) . All the inspector wants is
a letter in the file.
