[Digestion] Verification POME & Animal bones

Dear Sandra,

We had constructed and operated over 25 POME anaerobic digesters in
Southeast Asia and done +100 POME feasibility studies to provide gas/methane
production estimates. If you send me your email address, I will send you a
spreadsheet with the minimum data needed to give you a rough estimate. You
can send me your email address at cramos at biogreenengineering.com.

As for using bones as part of your feedstock for an AD I have no experience
but my knowledge gained by operating 698 ADs tells me that you are better
off keeping the bones out of the feedstock. The mineralized osseous tissue
of the bone will not be eaten by the bacteria and if not properly deal with
and diligently remove, it will plugged (rob you of working volume) your AD
sooner than later.

I hope this helps!

Subject: [Digestion] Verification POME & Animal bones

Dear all,

I am working on two AD projects in Uganda and Tanzania. In Uganda we will
have access to palm oil mill effluent (POME) and in the case of Tanzania, we
have access to slaughterhouse waste, which contains the bones as well
(mainly from cow carcasses). We haven't test the 2 feedstock yet.
Does anybody has experience with those 2 feedstock?

With regard to POME, I am looking for data on biogas yield.

With regard to bones; Will it be suitable for AD? Does anybody have
experiences with pretreatment of bones? I read somewhere that, after
crushing, it has to be cooked first before using as feedstock. What would be
the biogas yield?

Who can help me out? Or has some useful literature on this?

Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Sandra Bos
