Dear Rolf,
I accept the fact that methane is a cleaner fuel than manure and that
methane is also more user friendly than manure, but I do not agree
with you that dung should go back to the soil as fertilizer. Dung
cakes are widely used as fuel and therefore a valuable source of
income to families that own cattle. In our area, cakes made from just
50 kg dung fetch a price of almost 1 US$.There are enough minerals in
the soil to support plant growth. If you have a 1 m thick layer of
soil in your field, you can conduct agriculture for about 25000 years
without fertilizers. We teach farmers this trick. They get very high
yield, and their profitability increases because they do not buy
chemical or organic fertilizers.
