Dear All,

I am writing to contribute to the use of slurry as pesticides.

In Yoruba Land (Youruba is one of numerous tribes in Nigeria) , we apply animal dung as animal repeller particularly on farms that are too close to the village that may be at risk of sheep and goat grazing.
You collect animal dung, and make it into a watery past and use old broom as the sprayer by dipping the broom into the paste and shake it over the plants thereby dropping the dung solution on their leaves.

Goat and Sheep will not graze in that farm for as long as the dungs remain on the leaves.

Dear Chanakya,

You may find this attachment interesting. In Cambodia they mix bio-slurry
with a number of plants (tobacco, chili etc), then let it ferment for a
couple of weeks before applying it as botanical herbicide. Farmers report
that it works just as good or even better than chemical pesticides.

Regarding the reduction of pest. In our latest survey we asked that question
(n=165) and 8% said no difference, 12% said no pests anymore and 76%
reported experiencing less pests after applying bio-slurry.

Next year I plan to study this in a bit more detail.

Hope this is of use,

Cheers,

Eric

Dear List users,
I would be grateful if any of you could forward me any information of
'personal experience' or 'published information' on "pest repellent"
properties of dilute or filtered biogas slurry on agricultural and
horticultural crops.  This will be used to convince a few policy makers to
push the case of Biogas plants.
Regards
Chanakya
