Hi Kev and Gasification Colleagues,

Kev, you reflect very well the difference between Tom Reed and myself in saying:

>For those who are new, Tom Reed is actually the living gasification legend as I and many other researchers and developers benefited very much from his books and >publications.

As a you are one of the many researchers and developers who have benefited, I don't remember you telling this forum about what your work, or is that confidential?

>What scientific publication Doug Williams has a part from his web site to sell world war-II downdraft gasifiers ?

The Fluidyne archive was set up at a time (1997-8) as a place to record the work and photos of what had done specifically for the members of this Forum, because I was closing down the commercial production facility in New Zealand. I do not sell gasifiers to anyone, but agreements are in place, to draw from this early work to develop more advanced versions of the gasification process.

I don't write Papers for Scientific publication, because that would be of no value to anyone, especially for reference papers to add to the Bibliography of their own studies. Reading about gasification doesn't quite teach you how to understand it as a technology. I'm a nuts and bolts bloke.

I do not think worldwide Gasification community can benefit so much from commercially sensitive people like Doug Williams.

I guess you are referring to the Gasification Community as it exists now, where free copy stuff is the only way to go(:-) Having had to earn $$ to feed my family from gasification, sort of puts a different value on knowledge. The last free time I gave to the Worldwide gasification community, was as one of the outside expert advisors to set up the EU Gasification Guidelines. Even academics have need for nut and bolt blokes!

Tom Reed was the most reliable resource that the Gasification community relied so far because he shared everything that he discovered.

Tom Reed shares his academic abilities, not his commercial know-how, and in rescuing many of the publications relating to gasification, made it possible to for even Fluidyne to obtain factual information. I am only a part of a very diverse group of people who contribute to gasification in differing ways, so try to appreciate the differences of our contribution. We are all gone soon enough.

Doug Williams,
Fluidyne Gasification.
