[Gasification] Cost and Performance of Small Scale Gasifiers

I've been keen to get data as described by Tom for the last 5 years
going back to my first post on this list. While R&D and demonstration
systems are useful, cost and performance data from operational systems
is required to interest policy makers and investors in wider scale
deployments. I've found the criteria suggested at the IEA gasification
workshop a few years ago by Harri Knoef and others to be a useful first
filter for identifying commercial gasification systems.

Last time I checked their WWW site, Spanner were claiming to have sold
several hundred of their units with customer references available. The
WWW site also stated that installed systems have been running for 6000+
hours/annum. There was other high level technical data on the Spanner
WWW site. Northern hemisphere colleagues have visited Spanner sites,
seen them in operation generating power and had favourable reports from
the sites.

On their WWW site, APL are reporting growth in installations and
improvements in operational hours. Their regular email reports describe
an active development curve.

It would be very useful to get examples of these systems installed in
Australia to obtain solid technical data on costs and performance in
local conditions.

This information is readily available in Australia for other renewable
energy technologies that have demonstrated commercial status. Lack of
solid operational cost and performance data from authoritative sources
reduces the relevance of gasification technology
