[Greenbuilding] Colonization of other planets

I would like us to show respect, even if we do not agree. I can see why Gennaro might think the progression of technology when projected from the past could lead to the possibility of space travel and colonization of other planets.

However, much of the technological progress has been sponsored by the
expansion of consumption of finite resources. This trend will not continue. If space trevel happens, it will be at the huge expense of our own lovely planet and its occupants.

Another more down to Earth example of projecting continual growth is the proposed expansion of I-81 in the Western Virginia for 4 lanes to 8 lanes parallel with Blue Ridge. Never mind that in these mountain valleys we are prone to temperature inversions that trap the pollution. The proponents point to the graph of the growth in truck use as proof that it is needed. However, we are near or at peak oil. Availability of oil will soon be declining. The resources to sponsor the continued growth are not there, even though this has been the historical trend.

We are lobbying for the state and feds to invest in a sustainable transportation infrastructure of railroads to carry the trucks that could potentially be run on offshore wind generators or other renewable energy.

As I recall Gennaro said he believed it was possible, not that it was a good idea. And people were very dismissive and disrespectful to the idea that humans could travel to the moon. That event was 40 years ago.

History will characterize the 20th century as a time of expansion and depletion.
