I think it is actually a great system that uses very minimal material to
great benefit. All the proprietary systems incorporate a drainage plane at
this point and though there is still a lot of confusion as to how to flash
things it is improving. The only problems I see are that the drainage plane
is between the sheathing and the insulation so there is some insulation loss
especially if vented at the top. The other concern I have is that the glued
systems specify a gypsum board as the sheathing base which I just don't get.
I like the mechanically fastened systems with drain grooves, or over a

You don't have to use stucco, either. An exterior layer of foam can go
under essentially any type of siding. I am not a fan of EIFS, because it
traps moisture in the wrong places if not done right.
