[Greenbuilding] Pretty pictures of passive solar

I think some of the designs are more successful than others. I didn't buy
the book, but from the description it has both passive solar and
daylighting. And frankly, most of these settings are not somewhat
institutional - so it may be that these ideas may not work at home. And I
take all architectural pictures with a grain of salt after watching a good
friend and professional photographer use about a million lights to get a
nice photo of a 'naturally lit' home.

cheers,

Erin

I don't know

The first picture (kitchen) has a sink in front of a large window which
would be sheer hell if was in a solar orientation and I don't see an
overhang. I know spaces and looking at the sun angles actually think the
skylight usage and window placement would be quite harsh in some of these
spaces. You can see that in the education center photo. I would have raised
that ceiling and created a light well with transom windows.

This looks like a difficult building - assembly usage but with mixed
occupancy (sometime full, sometimes empty). Has to be pretty and appealing
but hard to make efficient.

There's passive solar (which I tend to think of as being first about
heating) and there's daylighting, which may overlap with the former, but is
about bringing extra sunlight into rooms. Or am I missing something?

These are pretty pictures of some passive solar. I like the way that many of
them used the light to illuminate the space, but kept out a lot of the
harshness that can happen with badly placed windows.
