That isn't my experience.  Admittedly, it is only anecdotal, but I find 
that as long as it is dry all wood that I use is about the same (heat 
wise) if I compare by WEIGHT.  Scientific study seem to confirm that 
wood is around 8000 BTUs per pound regardless of species.  Burn SPEED 
does vary, I think, but that is harder to tell since shape is also a 
huge component to that.  What in particular have you noticed?
