Hello and first of all thank you for taking the time to read this!

I am working with a small non-profit entreprise in Pondicherry on my Masters
in Mechanical Engineering dissertation which is on the Production of
Briquettes from Sugar Cane Waste. I was looking to see if anyone/groups who
had previously worked with such or similar projects, specifically on
small-scale, could give me any tips or any results from their experiments to
look at. So far I have spent 1 month doing fieldwork and after chasing up
sugar cane factories for several weeks I finally got my hands on a bag of
bagasse; and found that without processing it is very difficult to form
briquettes with (I had read that some briquette manufacturers had had
problems with this, but there is very limited information on this). Further
to this, the organisation I am working with is Prakti Design (
ww.praktidesign.com) and they would prefer to make non-carbonised
briquettes, and the majority of information on bagasse briquettes is on
carbonised briquettes.

If anyone could give me any advice, for example if they have found a cheap
way to manipulate the bagasse before making briquettes which improves the
quality of the finished product, that would be fantastic. I am currently
investigating with other substances, and bagasse has proved to be more
expensive than thought, but any personal data from studies would be
beneficial, particularly as I cannot do any more field work now until
January if I am lucky, and if not, until April. If anyone has any advice on
designing presses to make such briquettes that would also be beneficial, I
have found lots of models on the internet but I really need to analyse the
designs out there before designing my own, and so need more in-depth
information.

Thanks very much in advance for any help you can be!

Miss C Tiwari
